Philosophy

Leap into Learning is devoted to enhancing overall quality of life through treatment focused upon the development of improved social interaction, play and leisure skills, meaningful communication, classroom readiness, peer relationships and improved independence.

The Leap into Learning philosophy is that all children are capable learners: Children with ASD may learn differently to other children, but that should not prevent them from being provided with a developmentally-appropriate education, therefore Leap into Learning has high expectations of all children. Children with ASD will require a well designed and structured program tailored to their individual needs and learning style. The way the environment or an activity is structured can have significant impact on a child’s ability to learn. The Leap into learning philosophy is to build a relationship with the child and get to truly understand their learning styles and barriers to learning, such as communication and sensory issues.

Individual Approach: Leap into learning is committed to providing the most appropriate individualised intervention to meet your child’s needs, utilising a range of developmental, family, therapy, and behavioural approaches for both the social-emotional and cognitive development of children with autistic spectrum disorders. Together we will determine your child’s strengths and challenges and identify priority areas. We can then develop an individualised Educational Plan (IEP), and discuss a range of interventions, with the goal of finding the best and most realistic combination of strategies to meet your current needs. No single program or intervention strategy has all the answers for your child’s needs, therefore interventions which will be tailored to your child and families current and changing needs.

Customised holistic curriculum: Leap into learning understands that each child is different, so each program is customised to meet their needs. We set individualised goals, develop complete curriculum around specific strengths and weaknesses, and teach skills a pace that is socially and intellectually challenging with a focus on teaching the priority skills for your child. Areas of develop ment include: language and communication, play skills, adaptive skills and school skills, positive behaviour support, independence, receptive identification and instructions, toilet training, motor skills, expressive language, emotional regulation, self help, sharing, and flexibility while building self esteem.
