DIR ®
Floor Time
DIR floortime is a program developed by Dr. Stanley Greenspan and has a great ammount of supportive research as to its effectiveness as a devleopmental intervention for children with ASD and other devleopmental disabilities. The core concepts are to promote social interaction between a child with autism and an adult. The adult follows the child’s lead and build on what the child does to encourage further interaction. By following the child’s interests and motivations the child may attend and engage in dialogue, take initiative and engage in back and forth communication with the adult who can then extend the play. Children begin to engage in reciprocal interaction and meaningful play.
